defined. These nine parts or dimensions were able to be assessed on a scale comparison of
cultural ideals and practices from many parts of the world (2004, 2007 Studies - Globe Project.,
2004). The nine dimensions are Power Distance, Gender Egalitarianism, Performance, Humane
and Future Orientation, Uncertainty Avoidance, In-Group and Institutional collectivism and
assertiveness.
Performance Orientation is how the collective promotes teamwork through improvement
and excellence. Both Germany and Egypt have close scores 4.09 and 4.27 which is on the low
side. This means they are both value harmonious relationships and view direct feedback as
negative and confrontational.
Uncertainty Avoidance is defined as the limit that a group relies on social norms, process
and procedures to ease the anxiety of the unpredictability of the future (Grove, 2005). Germany
relies on details and leadership expertise to maintain a well thought out plan. Egypt is set in their
ways and intolerant of sacrilegious ideas and must have strict rules in place. They are less
calculated and resist most change.
In-Group Collectivism is a measurement on how the group expresses pride and loyalty. In
both Germany and Egypt weight is carried with valuable. Although, Germany scored lower

, measurement. Germany questions authority and places knowledge above all while Egypt stays in
their hierarchy without question. They know their rolls and do not deviate.
Gender Egalitarianism is how the country sees and prevents gender inequality. Mutually,
Germany and Egypt are low scoring. There are few women in decision making leadership
positions. Women are to be in lower status than men.
Humane Orientation is how the society rewards kindness. Self-interests, power, and greed
are top motivators. Egypt and Germany are the again close in score. Germany scoring low, 3.4,
and Egypt scoring a 4.73. Although, Egypt is more of a collectivist society where family is taken
care of.
Institutional Collectivism is defined as the rate in which the organization encourages
sharing of resources. As with humane Orientation Germany scored low with self-interest and
pursuit of personal goals at heart. Egypt scored a 5.64 meaning loyalty is encouraged and the
economic system boosts the collective in conjunction with Humane Orientation.
Future Orientation is how a society controls their indulgences (Hofstede Insights. 2021,
June 21). Close in score, 3.86 and 3.95, Egypt and Germany are constrained by religious and
societal norms where they think any form of indulgence is shameful.
Assertiveness is the rate at which the populace is aggressive in their relationships.
Germany scores high with a 4.73 noting that they value control over their environments, success,
and competition. They communicate directly and straightforward while Egypt tiptoes around and
finds confrontation overly aggressive. Egypt scores a 3.91 due to attempting to maintain
harmony in the environment to include relationships.
