Limericks: The Funny, Nonsensical Poems
A limerick is a popular form of comic poem. It tells a story and is usually quite humorous,
sometimes even a bit crazy, making it a form of nonsense poetry. Though it doesn't always make
sense, it can be quite funny. The rhyme pattern for a limerick is A, A, B, A, A. The first two lines
and the fifth line are usually a bit longer than lines three and four, while the third and fourth lines
rhyme.
Here's an example of a limerick:
● Two owls and a hen
● Four larks and a wren
● Have all built their nests in my beard
● So, how many is that? Four times eight: 32 birds
● So, shall we say an average of four eggs? I've drawn five eggs here.
