1. Key Findings

● Orange County has a larger percentage of severe housing problems than the United

The characteristics of a population is referred to as sociodemographics. This

information is compiled on the United States Census Bureau website. The website contains

information for the population of the United States (US) as well as each individual county

and cities. The characteristics and data for Orange County, California were obtained. They

are listed in the following table with comparison to the United States.

While to population estimate and percent change for Orange County were not listed,

there is sufficient data about the rest of the characteristics. Much of the population data

regarding age and gender are very similar between Orange County and the US. The

percentage of people under the age of 18 is 21.7% for Orange County and 22.3% for the US

(United States Census Bureau, 2021). The percentage of females is 50.7% in Orange County

and 50.8% in the US (United States Census Bureau, 2021). When looking at race, the main

races represented are White and Hispanic or Latino. Those percentages are 71.1% and 34%

B. COUNTY HEALTH TRENDS & RANKINGS

1. Introductory Paragraph

To compare the health of Orange County to the State of California and the US, seven health

trends were analyzed. These trends include sexually transmitted infections, adult obesity, alcohol-

impaired driving deaths, violent crime, children in poverty, and Medicare enrollees receiving flu

vaccinations. From looking at the trends, Orange County is relatively healthy overall. The most

concerning trend of note is the sexually transmitted infection rates which have steadily been

increasing since 2013 (County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, 2021). The county is improving in

the number of violent crimes, alcohol-impaired driving deaths, and air pollution. These seven health
