Food Evolution Reflection Paper
Introduction
The film comes at a time when the debate over the safety and availability of food to feed
the global masses is raising more controversy than agreement. One of the main issues under
heavy scrutiny is the place and acceptance of the genetically modified foods. While some
scientists and the international corporations in the agriculture sector have embraced the GMO
concept and are rigorously advocating for its implementation, the other masses, who have no
much knowledge about the GMO, have looked at this new technology with cynical
appreciation. The GMO has generated much negative publicity, positive and negative. The
opponents of the use of GMO have always connected the GMO with the increase in strange
terminal illnesses while the proponents have embraced it as the only solution to the
humankind’s food requirements
The film’s guiding thesis
The film has attempted to address the GMO debate through an objective, scientific and
data-based evaluation. It looks at both sides of the discussion and makes a case for the use of
GMO food while refuting the negative perception toward the modified foods by using
scientific evidence from data and commentaries by scientists. The film portrays the GMO’s as

the solution to the challenges facing the world’s ability to feed its inhabitants.
The environmental risks addressed by the film
The film emphasizes the threats to the human’s food security arising from the already
evident climate change. In the movie, the risk of climate change is presented as a threat
having the potential of affecting the food production and the production patterns. The climate
change has the potential of altering the quality and quantity of foods produced by the farmers
in almost every region of the earth[CITATION Och16 \p 74 \l 1033 ]. While in some areas the
productivity may increase due to change in weather, the same change will have drastic effects
in some regions of the earth[CITATION Qai13 \p 4 \l 1033 ]. The climate change will bring
about prolonged drought in some areas forcing the population to starve and run out of food
options.
The film raise the threat to the environment posed by the increasing deforestation in the
most significant natural forest. Forests have a direct connection with agricultural production
as they assist in the hydrological cycle. Increased deforestation to satisfy the human need for
land and lumber has continued to distort the hydrological cycle causing a significant shortage
of rain in the rain-dependent areas. Water towers in the forests have been drying up causing
the rivers down streams to dry up or have low water levels[CITATION Dun12 \p 2 \l 1033 ].
In the end, the availability of food drastically reduces, posing a significant threat to the food
security of many nations.
The film’s boldest or most controversial claims raised.
Amidst all the environmental threats posed by the human activities that have a direct
impact on the food security, the film boldly proposes the GMO as the only solution to survive
