1. As a nurse, how confident do you feel about delegating tasks to a
CNA or an LPN?
- I feel like I’m in the middle when it comes to delegating certain
takes to CNA’s and LPN’s. Clinicals has made me more
comfortable on my delegating skills. Watching what they do as
well as the things the nurses I shadowed delegated has helped
me a lot. I will take that on when I work at the hospital. If there is
something, I am unsure about I can always ask before I do. My
orientation will also get me more familiar with it.
2. Considering the charge nurse in the case study, how would you feel
asking the charge nurse for help?
- The charge nurse was friendly throughout the situations
occurring but also a little dismissive. I would feel alright on
asking the charge nurse for help. She would be my last resort
because she is not very promising on being able to help if she
has other things going on.
3. Provide at least two examples from the case of how Cynthia could
improve?
1. Cynthia can improve on being familiar with lab values as it
is something you will be using throughout your whole
career. You also need to know labs to help understand
diagnosis and plan your interventions.
2. Cynthia can also improve on her prioritization and
communication skill when delegating. She can work on her
critical thinking skills when it comes to resolving conflict
and knowing when she needs to its urgent on assessing
her patients. All these will improve on her time
management and completing task on time.
4. If you were the nurse in this situation, what assessment data would
you have gathered before requesting an indwelling catheter?
- Catheters are to be avoided because of infections. Before
requesting one calculate the I&O’s, listen to the lungs for any
crackles, check for edema, assess for SOB. You should also
perform a bladder scan to check how much urine is being
retained.
5. Write an SBAR regarding the patient in the scenario for the report to
the provider.
S: Mr. Evans is a female who was admitted to Cynthia unit for
bacterial pneumonia.
B: Evans has a history of chronic heart failure
