BUS 215 Week 1 Discussion 1, Economic Influences   BUS 215 Week 1 Discussion 1, Economic Influences Visit Wall Street Journal and other similar sites as may be appropriate. Read at least two articles about current state of economy and consider how economy may be influencing your life. What significant economic issue has most impact on you? Has a similar economic condition happened in past? What is likelihood it could happen again? What should you do to prepare for next period of economic challenge? Post to discussion board your 200 word answer. Your answer should focus on selecting and organizing your most relevant comments in a coherent fashion. Respond to at least two of your classmates' postings. Economic issue that has had most impact on me is job market. availability of jobs has affected me since my husband and I moved to Dallas, TX from New Orleans, LA. One of reasons that we moved was that there were more jobs here in Dallas than there where in New Orleans. Since moving here my husband has noticedthat more employers want to hire you on as a temporaryemployee for an extended period of time rather than hire you on as a permanent employee. This would be ok if we didn’t have a twoyear old and an infant to care for. issue is that with twosmall children we need family healthcoverage and as a temp employee you are not eligible for it through company. Only way to get coverage is through temp agency and coverage is basically a discount card, which doesn’t help ifyour children are sick and require medication for an extended amount of time. As per statistics in Wall Street Journal job market is better than it was a year agoand is steadily increasing. Iincrease is minimal but steady. They estimate that by 2016, it will take just 35,000 new jobs per month to keep unemployment rate steady. (Casselman, B. (2013)) Messrs. Aaronson and Brave estimate economy had about 6 million fewer jobs in 2012 than it should have based on long-term trends. (Casselman, B. (2013)) Messrs Depending uponwhat new statistics are with newemployment study, hopefully market will have more jobs availablefor qualified individuals on a permanent level giving them access to medical coverage fortheir families. Nearly four years after depressionunemployment rate is holding steady at 7.5%. (Casselman, B. (2013)) More than 2.5 million fewer Americans are working today than when recession began. (Casselman, B. (2013)) Casselman, B. (2013) How Many Jobs Does It Take to Bring Down Unemployment? Retrieved June 5, 2013, from: Casselman, B. (2013) What’s Holding Back Hiring? Retrieved June 5, 2013, from:
