Rene Descartes Meditations I and II
Rene Descartes is one of the most influential thinkers of all time. His Meditations on First Philosophy is considered one of the foundational texts of modern philosophy. Descartes wrote his Meditations to explore the nature of reality, and in particular to determine whether there are any certain truths that can be known. His method of doubting everything in order to determine what can be known with certainty has been a cornerstone of philosophical inquiry ever since. His argument for the existence of God based on his own thoughts is still debated today.
