CPA EG Module 1 - Part A Sections 1.1 – 1.9

Serving the Public Interest with Ethical Governance and
Accountability
When it comes to serving the public interest, we must also
consider our own self-interest. While we hope that people act
altruistically, the reality is that there is bound to be some
tension. As people desire more money, they may try to
monopolize the industry and keep profits up. We must find a
balance between public interest and self-interest, considering
ethical governance and accountability factors in our business
decisions.
We must give a proper account of what is going on in order for
people to make informed decisions. Different organizations and
entities are integrated into this governability, which can be
seen in Table 1.1. Tables 1.2 and 1.3 provide an overview of
organizations that contribute to creating the rules and
frameworks that try to minimize negative behavior and
promote good behavior.
It is important to consider the public interest, as these
frameworks are designed to create rules and regulations for
this purpose. We must also be aware of our own mistakes and
strive to avoid repeating them in the future.
The Four E's of a Crowning Professional Item
The four E's of a crowning professional item are education,
ethics, entrepreneurship, and expertise. Combining these with
diligence leads to excellence. The Grenfell fire in the UK was
caused by flammable cladding, which was chosen over a safer
option due to cost considerations.
Instead of prioritizing wealth over what is right, we must
consider the public interest and make decisions accordingly.
Taking the safer, non-flammable option may cost more upfront,
but in the long run, it is the responsible choice.
Throughout the webinars, questions will be asked to test your
knowledge. Take a moment to pause and think about your
answer before continuing.
, Professional Attributes
You need to be able to describe the nature and attributes of a
profession, which is one of the five objectives worth
contributing 15% of your total exam mark. The first two units
tie into Part A of Module One, so you should go through those
units by clicking on them to see the instructions. It will tell you
to read, watch a video, attempt a quiz, download a PDF or
whatever it might be. At the end of each section, it will tell you
where you need to read next. For instance:
Can you list the eight attributes of the profession?
Can you write a two-sentence description about each
one and why do you need it?
What have you not explored and navigated yet if you
have to go through them again?
How do you capture them all in a body of knowledge
education?
What does the quiz entail?
How do you figure them out?
The next house will show you what you need to do next, and
the last house will give you a screenshot. The fifth house will
allow you to understand that you haven't been to the first or
last quiz, and the sixth will allow you to understand that you
haven't explored the body of knowledge education process
ideal of service and governing body professional judgment
items like that.
Body of Knowledge
The body of knowledge is theory construction systematic
research and a well-founded body of knowledge derived from
investigation. Continuing professional development is still
essential but is in a different section of the extensive education
process for members. There is a theory that people want useful
information that's relevant and faithfully represents what's
going on, but that's tricky to balance. Examples of applications
in the body of knowledge are tax accounting and cost
accounting. In reflection, what was your favorite undergraduate
accounting area? Some people are passionate about
management accounting. What was your favorite accounting
area? There is another comprehensive video and a worked
question and solution that explains this in more detail. Chris
