The Death Penalty
Introduction
The death penalty in the United States is something that will always be debated. Is it right
or is it wrong? The death penalty is the most severe and effective form of punishment
considering it is impossible for a criminal to commit any more crimes if they are deceased. The
death penalty helps grieving families, and puts an end to future disaster caused by the offender.
When an individual is punished to a life long sentence, they aren’t really being punished. When
an individual is punished to a death sentence, they are being punished to the highest extent. The
death penalty is about justice, grieving families deserve justice for their loved ones. I support the
code of Hammurabi 100%, which ties into the death penalty. An “eye for eye” punishes the
offender the way in which they offended. For example, if an individual kills someone, they
deserve the death penalty. The death penalty should be enforced throughout the United States to
create a better world of living.
History of the Death Penalty
The history of the death penalty dates back quite some time. Capital punishment in the
early years was done by beheading the individual. In today’s society, if the death penalty was to
be done, it would be done by lethal injection. The first recorded execution was in the early
1600’s. Captain George Kendall was hung for the offense of treason in 1608. “In the American
colonies, legal executions took place as early as 1630. As in England, the death penalty was
imposed for many crimes, even minor ones such as picking pockets or stealing a loaf of bread.
