NR-531 Week 5 Graded Discussion 2: Decision Making In my nursing career, the one situation that I have not previously experienced is the nursing management of the facility. The ways that I can personally improve through demonstrating nursing management in OBGYN is to make sure to involve all staff in trying to find solutions for potential problems in our clinic. Involving staff and asking them for their opinion on issues will build respect and trust among each other. Being in leadership, I would have to know how to work with people, know the mission of the facility and ensuring the team we are working on the same goals. Also, I believe that I would be a democratic and transformational type of leader if I was in charge. Being able to have group contributions will build good relationships and empower the team. As a team, we should work together to figure out the best and safest care for our patients. Nurse leaders also value the knowledge and skills that each person brings to a health care situation (Hood, 2014). At my facility, I know each Medical Assistant and OBGYN physician can contribute purposeful information to expand out team’s knowledge. Empowering others regarding the vision establishes a common bond, or shared vision, and provides meaning to the life of the individuals working in the organization for which the vision was created (Huber, 2015). We respect each other in my department and I am grateful for the group of people I work with. If I was the manager and had to conduct a team meeting, I know that everyone would actively participate and feed ideas off each other. Being able to include your team in clinic decisions will build a strong bond within the group. Our patients in OBGYN always compliments our group.
