For Profit Education
In “ Learners and Teachers For a Profit” by Brenna Ryan she argues that For-Profit
schools are focusing on the money aspect instead of providing a proper education for students.
Ryan begins the article by describing a common situation where a professor is asked to inflate
the student’s grades to meet the minimum. Ryan ends the article with his opinion on taking
advantage of the students to profit off of them. In “Fraud in For-Profit Higher Education”
William Beaver argues that schools are taking advantage of students in for-profit schools and
profiting off of them. Beaver begins by talking about the history of it and the use of federal
student loans. Beaver ends his article with the criminogenic of the for-profit education. For-
profit education are affecting students’ educations, professors’ jobs, and are contributing to
criminal offences.
What exactly is For-Profit education and the difference form Non-Profit? For-profit
education refers to educational institutions that are ran by private business that are seeking profit.
Many of these schools are relying on money funded by federal student aid, grants and loans.
They are also largely funded by big business looking to make a profit. For this reason, many of
these schools have a bad reputation regarding the education provided. Since the schools is
focused on meeting their profit requirements, they would rather sacrifice the student’s education
and make more money. Non-profit education are more traditional and a lot more common than

the other kind. These schools receive money from the government, tuition from students,
endowments, and donations to fund for these schools. These types of schools are focused more
on the student’s education instead of making a profit off of them. That is why they are also seen
as more traditional.
For one thing, these non-profit schools are damaging student’s education and are another
obstacle in these people’s lives. Instead of trying to help students to get a degree that will be
helpful in the future, benefit them, and teach them properly, they would rather throw them under
the bus and drain them for their money. Non-profit schools seem beneficial to people who are
lower income, uneducated, and beginners because those are the type of people these schools
target. Not only that but many professors and faculty are being taken advantage off and are being
used at the school’s disposal for their necessities.
Furthermore, For-profit educational institutions are taking advantage of students to profit
off of them and are not teaching the students properly. In “ Learners and Teachers For a Profit”
by Brenna Ryan she discusses how students are treated to the schools benefit and says that they
“…Collect thousands of dollars before ‘ethically’ having to tell the ‘learner’ he or she will not be
able to stay” (7).This in term results in a dent in the educations students are provided. Instead of
receiving a high-end education they are receiving the low end and are treated at the school’s
disposal so these people in higher power can capitalize off of them. The faculty is there for the
wrong reasons and doesn’t care about the students, they’d rather take the easy way out and
simply pass them. These professors would rather bump a student s grade form a ‘D’ to a ‘B’
instead of properly teaching them. Since many of these schools are funded by larger business
looking for money, they will do whatever is in their power to make sure they don’t lose any
money and continue to grow. Many of the students entering these schools are lack a lot of skills
