ALL ABOUT POLLUTION
Pollution has become a very common yet serious issue in today’s world. It has been
there in different forms since a long time even before human evolution such as volcanic
eruptions, wildfire which lead to various photochemical reactions in the atmosphere. The
current concern is that it is rising day by day due to various resources of pollutants. And, one
of the main pollutants are humans and man-made machines. It is right to say that pollution is
damaging the mother earth severely and we, humans, should play our part to prevent it from
happening.
The purpose of this essay is to touch all the references regarding pollution and to
examine all its factors.
First of all what is the pollution? Pollution sepsis is the presence of contaminants in
the natural environment that causes harm and damage and therefore leads to adverse changes.
Pollution is quite complex and presents many types with different dangers for people as
well as for the environment. Below I will present a series of types of pollution:
1. Air Pollution – this type of pollution occurs due to the presence of harmful
gases and substances in the air. It is due to vehicle emission, dust and dirt,
poisonous gasses from the factories etc.
2. Water Pollution - happens when toxic substances get mixed in various water
bodies such as lakes, oceans, rivers etc. Here toxic substances refer to the
chemical fertilizer, industrial waste, sewage and wastewater, mining activities,
marine dumping etc.
3. Soil Pollution – this type depicts the contamination of soil due to the presence
of toxic substances due to excessive use of fertilisers and pesticides,
deforestation, industrial waste, starting forest fires etc.
4. Noise Pollution – this type of pollution is increasing more and more which
encompasses roadway noise, aircraft noise, industrial noise as well as high-
intensity sonar.
5. Electromagnetic Pollution - the overabundance of electromagnetic radiation in
their non-ionizing form, such as radio and television transmissions, Wi-fi etc.
Although there is no demonstrable effect on humans there can be interference
with radio-astronomy and effects on safety systems of aircraft and cars.
, Having listed some of the most important types of pollution, I will begin to analyze
them.
AIR POLLUTION
Air pollution is the contamination of air due to the
presence of substances in the atmosphere that are harmful to the
health of humans and other living beings, or cause damage to
the climate or to materials. It is also the contamination of indoor
or outdoor surrounding either by chemical activities, physical or
biological agents that alters the natural features of the
atmosphere. Can cause diseases, allergies, and even death to humans; it can also cause harm
to other living organisms such as animals and food crops, and may damage the natural
environment
Air pollution kills more than 2 million people each year, according to a study published
in the journal of Environmental Research Letters. The effects of air pollution on human health
can vary widely depending on the pollutant.
Sources of air pollution:
Fumes from paint, hair spray, varnish, aerosol sprays and other solvents. These
can be substantial;
Waste deposition in landfills produces methane;
Nuclear weapons, toxic gases, germ warfare, and rocketry are examples of
military resources;
Agricultural emissions and emissions from meat production or livestock
contribute substantially to air pollution;
The health effects of exposure to contaminated air are primarily respiratory and
cardiovascular illnesses and are also associated with increased hospitalization and reduced life
expectancy.
To highlight the differences in air pollution on our platform, there is a 6-level scale that
informs you about the color of air pollution. From the green color that shows that the air
quality is very good, to the burgundy color when the air pollution standards are repeatedly
exceeded and it is advisable not to been leave the house.
HOW TO STOP AIR POLLUTION?
●Reduce idling of your automobile and motorcycle. ●Conserve your electricity and
make shorter excursions. ● Set air conditioners at a minimum of 77 degrees. ● Instead of
driving alone consider sharing a ride to work or use public transportation. ●Combine errands
by careful planning with less trips. ●Walk whenever possible or ride a bike.
