,I. Introduction
Living things are made up of water therefore water is vital for all life
and one cannot survive without it. “Water is considered the most important
resource for sustaining ecosystems which provide life-supporting services for people,
animals, and plants” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021),
Communities need clean water to stay physically healthy and prevent
diseases caused by a lack of adequate water, sanitation, and hygiene
(WASH). Approximately 3,575,000 people die each year from diseases
stemming from dirty water. Water contamination and poor sanitation have
been linked to the spread of diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery,
hepatitis A, typhoid, and polio. Individuals are exposed to preventable health
risks when water and sanitation services are unavailable, inadequate, or
poorly managed.
A building's water and gas flow are controlled by a complex system of
pipes, fixtures, and valves called the plumbing system. In buildings,
residences, and other structures, it is essential for delivering clean water and
safe waste disposal. Its function made it more complex that such codes must
be followed and applied. According to field data, plumbing and sanitation
services account for 20% of total building costs. This percentage may vary
depending on the quality of plumbing materials, user behavior, installation,
and proper design. This can be reduced even further and made more cost-
effective by using appropriate materials, techniques, and installation. Given
the facts stated above, it is imperative that proper plumbing and sanitation
service planning be undertaken in order to reduce maintenance costs and
the health of occupants.
When it comes to plumbing systems, water quality is a big
consideration. Building residents may be at risk for health problems if lead.
, According to a research entitled, “Adoption of Water Efficient Plumbing
Fixtures, A Case Study Of A Residential Building” (2020), water pollution caused by
insufficient sewage disposal capacity, an increasing number of people
dwelling on flood prone lowland areas and resultant flood damage, etc., are
growing concerns that these
, problems including water shortages will become more serious in future due
to the increase in the world population and the impact of climate change.
From the smallest to the biggest structure, plumbing plays a vital role
that designers of the house must take in consideration to. Even for people
who prefer to live “off the grid,” it’s essential to have some sort of water
treatment system in place. Plumbing system safeguards the clean water
making it more valuable by supplying safe water for better well-being.
Careful design and installation of the plumbing system saves money in the
long run by reducing future hassle.
