Assignment #1
Water is one of the necessary resources that a man needs. The water system in
ancient times is simple. Some of the present bodies of water that are accessible to
them became their source of water. As time goes on, the water system also
evolves. Now, the water system is complicated and has evolved a lot compared to
the first water system. To maintain an efficient and usable water system, different
techniques are used to make sure that it is clean. One of these practices is
plumbing.
History of Plumbing in the Philippines
In the Philippines, Plumbing originated in the 17th century, when the Philippines
was colonized, the infrastructure that was built had plumbing installations, one of
its examples is the Intramuros. While on the 18th and 19th centuries, plumbing is
used in towns (Baixardoc, N.A.). Aside from maintaining sanitary systems, proper
waste disposal is also applied to lessen the risk of harnessing different diseases.
Some of the notable moments in the history of plumbing in the Philippines are:
In 1902, when the Plumbing Trade was recognized by the government,
In 1935, the National Master Plumber Association of the Philippines (NAMPAP)
was organized by its members: Francisco Geronimo, Mariano de Ocampo, Igmidio
Suarez, Eusebio Mina Jose Rivera, Raymundo Reyes, Sr., Roberto Feliciano,
Gregorio Lazaro, Raymundo Gumapac, John Jones, Trinitario Ortiz, Valentin
Casupanan, Catalino Casupanan, Crispin Francisco, Teodoro Pastor, Cornelio
Odvina, and Jesus Tanghal Dera,
In 1954, the law that was proposed by NAMPAP was approved and was later
signed by President Ramon Magsaysay, in 1955, thus, the Plumbing Law of the
Philippines,
In 1959, the plumbing code of the Philippines was promulgated and approved by
Malacañang, the same year when NAMPAP helped in creating National Waterworks
and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA),
In 1967, the first amendment to the National Plumbing Code was approved, and
years later, updates and revisions are applied to some of the proposed law.
Concepts and Principles of Plumbing in the Philippines
The basic principles of the plumbing system consist of different contexts that are
used to create and maintain a proper sanitary systems. Some of the principles are
focused on the proper placement of sanitary pipes to avoid problems such as
backflow or back siphonage. There are also principles for the proper placement of
fixtures and furniture that is connected to or has to do with sanitary systems. It
also has some principles that help in teaching what are the do's and don'ts, what
are the necessary items that a house/building/any structure must have, and the
preferred materials to be used.
