his fellow travelers played chess to
pass the time during the long flight.
Then, as a skilled chess player, he
repeatedly defeated them.

Rizal made an effort to talk with his
fellow passengers in that
language. However, he discovered
that his book's French was not
understandable, so he instead
spoke a mixed Spanish-Latin

He was then able to advance his
