ASSIGNMENT 7

SUSTAINABILITY

According to Global Footprint Network, my ecological footprint is 2.6 global hectares. My personal
earth overshoot day is 24. August and if everyone lived like me, we would need 1.6 Earths. This means
that I am unsustainable, but I answered honestly as much as I could.

PART A

The ecological footprint is the only merit that measures how much nature we have and how much
nature we use. My footprint is 2.6g.h and I am placed under quadrant II which means my ecological
footprint is developing and unsustainable because my footprint is greater than 1.8 HA which means we
are not really meeting the present needs of the people, and, it is compromising the ability of future
generation to meet their needs. This all bad. I am not proud of it, for me this means that I need to
change my life style and be more environmentally friendly so that I can lower my footprint results.

PART B

Do I really practice these values?

In assignment 6, my answer to the virtue ethics questions was that I do practice and care for the
environment because it is the right thing to do. But referring to my ecological footprint result, I would
say no and there must be changes that need to me made, like growing our own food and buy or eat less,
use less energy like switching off unnecessary lights to save the energy and walk more rather than using
car to reduce gas and air pollution.

Can I really claim that these are my virtue?

I said yes, I do practice my virtues, but now that my footprint came out so high it means I really need to
make more effort to the sustainability of the environment. If I can save more electricity and watch what
I eat in my daily basis.

Is what I am saying really what I do?

I said yes, this has changed my mind on how important is, to take care of the environment or the nature
around us. We are the ones to save the earth for the future so we need to sustain it because we are still
developing.

PART C

It’s all in the outcome-Consequentialism

My answer was option E “it breaks my heart to see children being exploited. This is morally wrong and
must not be allowed”. It morally wrong to allow children to work in such horrible and extremely
dangerous conditions. We must rescue children no matter what the cost and allow them to be children
with good education.
