APU
Auxiliary Power Unit-provides power to the aircraft (like a car's battery)
ATC
Air Traffic Control; the Control Tower; the tower at an airport where mid-air traffic and
"just-landed" traffic is directed.
BELLY
The under section of the aircraft (in which passengers do not sit) in which baggage and
cargo are loaded; the belly is divided into several bins.
BELT LOADER
Conveyor belt used to get baggage and cargo up to the aircraft.
BIN
Section of the lower part of the aircraft in which baggage and cargo are loaded.
BOARDING
Passengers getting onto an aircraft
BAGGAGE CART
Train like carts on which baggage is transported to/from the terminal to the aircraft.
BAGGAGE CARROUSEL
Where baggage is sent into the baggage claim area of the terminal building for
passengers to re-claim; some carrousels are round, other are flat or conveyor belts.
CHOCKS
Blocks placed around the wheels of an aircraft to prevent it from rolling while parked
COMAT
Company Material-airline equipment, communication, or supplies shipped via company
aircraft from one station to another.
GPU
Ground Power Unit-provides power to the aircraft when the engines are stopped (like a
wall socket).
JET FUEL
The kind of fuel used on a jet aircraft.
JETWAY
Mechanical walkway to connect the airport terminal and the aircraft.
LEAD AGENT
An experienced agent who is "supervisor" of an area of the ramp, area of gates, etc.
Provides assistance to agents by answering questions, etc.
OFFLOAD/OFFLOADED
Baggage, cargo, freight, etc. taken off an aircraft.
