ANC QI PROJECT| FOR UNIVERSITY GRADUATES
NURSING DEPARTMENT
MCH PREPALATION
Project Title: Strengthening Maternal and Child Health Outcomes through First
ANC Visits in a Medical Facility
Background: Antenatal care (ANC) is a critical component of maternal and child
health services. However, in many low- and middle-income countries, access to
ANC services is limited, and women often receive care only during late pregnancy
or not at all. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that pregnant
women receive the first ANC visit within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, which
includes a comprehensive medical history, physical examination, and laboratory
tests. The implementation of first ANC visits has the potential to improve maternal
and child health outcomes.
Objectives: The objective of this quality improvement (QI) project is to strengthen
maternal and child health outcomes through the implementation of first ANC
visits in a medical facility.
Methods: The QI project will be conducted in a medical facility in a low- or middle-
income country. The project will involve the following steps:
1. Training of healthcare providers: Healthcare providers who will be providing
first ANC visits will be trained on the WHO guidelines for ANC and the
procedures for conducting first ANC visits. The training will include a review
of the importance of first ANC visits and the steps involved in conducting
them.
2. Development of a standard operating procedure (SOP): An SOP will be
developed for conducting first ANC visits. The SOP will include guidelines on
the timing of the visit, the components of the visit, and the laboratory tests
