GST CA Inter Note
Registration in GST
Registration under Goods and Services Tax (GST) is mandatory for businesses whose annual
turnover exceeds the threshold limit prescribed by the government. The threshold limit for GST
registration varies depending on the nature of the business and the state in which it operates. In
general, businesses with an annual turnover of more than Rs. 20 lakhs are required to register
for GST.
However, there are certain businesses that are required to register for GST irrespective of their
turnover. These include:
Businesses engaged in inter-state supply of goods or services
Casual taxable persons
Non-resident taxable persons
E-commerce operators
Persons required to deduct tax at source (TDS)
Persons required to collect tax at source (TCS)
To register for GST, you need to visit the GST portal (www.gst.gov.in) and fill in the necessary
details in the registration form. You will need to provide details such as your PAN, mobile
number, email address, and proof of business registration. Once the registration form is
submitted, you will receive an application reference number (ARN) which can be used to track
the status of your application.
After verification of the details provided in the registration form, the GST officer may ask for
additional documents or information. Once all the formalities are completed, the GST
registration certificate will be issued within a few days. It is important to note that GST
registration is valid for a period of 5 years and needs to be renewed thereafter.
