MIS-605: Topic 2 DQ 1 Explain why database designers use relationships to construct a database instead of listing all the records in one location. Some think it would seem easier to have all the information in one place, so explain why using relationships is the standard. Relationships is a database term that describes the way the data in tables are connected. A relational database organizes data in tables. These tables are made up of rows and columns. This is similar to a spreadsheet. However, the relationships that can be created with the tables enables a relational database to efficiently store large amounts of data, and effectively retrieve specific data. On the other hand, there are a lot of problems that come with storing data in one location. For example, there are inconsistency in data format, the same information kept in several locations, and data inconsistencies are some problems that come with storing records in one location. Also, it is harder to retrieve the data and the data found may not be accurate. A relational database establishes a connection between a pair of tables that are logically related to each other. Also, it helps to further refine table structures and minimize redundant data. This type of database acts like a mechanism that allows a person to draw data from multiple tables at the same time.
