Abstract
The study will be investigating the employment of new technology in the development of
decision- making skills by individuals, groups, and companies. The incorporation of technology
by people and organizations has eased the burden for each of them. In education, for instance,
teachers can now create "instructional materials" supporting learning and combined projects.
They can now formulate class notes and avail them to students via class email. Students
consequently go further to access additional information on online sources without having to
depend on the teachers entirely. The study aims to determine how big data can be applied in all
areas of life. It will be defining significant data architecture in the decision- making process. The
study will also identify the opportunities and challenges of big data in day to day applications.
The study will be using a conclusive research design. This design is usually utilized in generating
useful and practical results that enhance decision making or attainment of reliable solutions. The
study will use random selection, that is, the use of the simple sampling method. In this research,
primary data will be employed in carrying out research and analysis on the use of new
technology in the development of individuals and organisations. Primary data can be defined as
data collected from "first-hand sources," that is, interviews, experiments, and surveys initiated
via questionnaires. In numerous cases, the use of primary data only presents issues as a single
participant or institution may not provide a clear picture of the entire industry. In our case, using
one individual or company may not represent how technology impacts day to day activities.
Secondary data will, therefore, be useful in supplementing the primary data. It also serves as a
basis of comparison between findings and state of the industry, thus inducing reliability and
validity. Three hundred participants will be considered for the study. Two types of
questionnaires will be formulated with one being directed to companies, while the other will be
directed to individual participants. One hundred participants will comprise of companies, while
the remaining 200 will consist of individual respondents.

Chapter 1
1.1 Introduction
The research will be investigating how technology and decision making is a complex
relationship. Digital and internet technology is affecting both psychological as well as physical
development in human life. Some of the significant facets impacted through technological
progress include communication, healthcare, education, and commerce. Technological
advancement can be evidenced through the manufacture of smart devices such as smartphones,
notepads, laptops, personal computers, smartwatches, and tablets. Consequently, online
platforms have been created to give room for socialization and trade. Examples include
Facebook, Twitter, and Skye.
Decision making is a significant part of the strategic management process for any
enterprise. Managers must make decisions to streamline or ensure continuous operations.
However, the decision making process is not as easy as it sounds. In the past, decision-making
for managers relied on their levels of experience, knowledge, and instinct. Today, decision
making is dependent on technology, which uses vast amounts of data relative to the business in
the process.
Currently, managers are dealing with staggering data amounts in their businesses daily.
More information induces much difficulty in decision making. While technically distinct, all
technologies seek to meet a similar objective, that is, to avail to executives and managers critical
information that would aid in the making of logical and well-informed decisions. The study will
be particularly investigating the application of big data in decision making, particularly in the
business arena.
