Leaders in sport

unit 4 sports leadership

A:Understand the roles, qualities and characteristics of an effective sports leader
B: Examine the importance of psychological factors and their link with effective leadership

I have picked three leaders in sport that I think are important to the sport industry each one has a
different approach and level of being involved. A teacher can introduce a young person to a sport
that they may not have taken part in before and will oversee planning and giving lessons in a school.
A coach will focus on the team that are able to play the sport or coach less able players to a standard
that they can join the team they are coaching, they lead training sessions and games where they will
investigate skills and weakness in the team and adjust training. A team manager will need to
concentrate on putting together the best team available from the players he has to choose from. I
think communication is going to be very important for all 3 of my leaders but with a manager they
will do this from the level of player all the way to the owner of the club that he manages a team for.

Teacher
A teacher can be a good influence on a young person and is a person who has contact with all types
of students of different ages with different abilities and different backgrounds and interests. The job
advert below was found online and gives a good idea for what is required from a person before they
apply for the job.

Below is the job description included by the Russell primary school and lists what they think is the
best qualities a new teacher who wants to work at the school should have and what is expected
from them if they are given the role of a teacher sport leader in PE.
