Question 2: What one area of forensic science has a special attraction to you as an area of
study? Describe why you find this specific area interesting and how you envision yourself
utilizing this information.
One area that is of good interest to me is that of forensic toxicology. This is an area
where the decision for poisoning, cause of death or other chemical presence is determined by a
series of analyzing the body tissues and other fluids to reach the same conclusion. In this field,
there is a need for evidence of the presence of a chemical component or a trace of poison in the
body tissues or in the body fluid of the dead individual. What interests me more in this field is
that there is need to take the samples to the laboratory and then ascertain the presence of these
kinds of chemicals and at the same time be able to provide a decision or conclusion that the
cause of death was as a result of the chemical in the individuals’ body. Forensic toxicology is
also applicable in the environmental pollution investigations where decisions have to be made on
the presence of an unwanted chemical in the air or any other environment. In the recent times,
deaths result from toxicant individual’s foods and even drinks. There is also a number of
poisoning that is applicable to individuals at the same time. In this case, forensic toxicology can
be of help in unfolding these cases essentially when the cause of death is not physical or cannot
be determined by the naked eyes.
In the recent times, there is increased globalization activities and increased processing
activities at the same time by various institutions and companies. In this case, there is an
increased release of toxic chemicals to the environment that eventually hurt the health and well
being of the society. In this case, I intend to use forensic toxicology to help unearth the effects of
globalization in our societies by ensuring that the manufacturing and other activities at the same
