Martin Luther King considerably emancipated and influenced the revolution
of marriage and family to a place of honour and respect. Martin Luther marked a
significant change by embracing marriage as God’s gift to man. Martin further
explained that God’s purpose of marriage was for procreation and companionship.
The Roman Catholic Church supported this view as they argued that the primary goal
of marriage was for procreation. 1 Martin Luther maintained that marriage was one of
the most outstanding achievements of the Christian community. Luther's view on the
whole topic of marriage was seen more profoundly as societal rather than theological.
People in the larger society got to relate to his teachings more directly since most
were raised in a family setting. During this period, before the reformation, marriage
and family were greatly discouraged and denigrated as singleness and celibacy were
exalted as a higher state of spirituality. However, Luther's reformation on marriage as
a necessary state solemnly commanded by God, marked the beginning of social,
theological and public changes during this prohibition period.
