Planning review
In my project so far, I feel that I am making progressing towards my aims and objectives which I made
amendments to following my primary research. This caused me to want to explore the idea of
overconsumption as well. In my taught skills lesson about aims and objectives I based them of SMART
objectives and used my initial research to shape them. As a result, I feel their altering is evitable although some
haven't swayed from their original idea due to them being specific, realistic and measurable when writing
them. The aim of exploring as to whether overpopulation or overconsumption has greater effect is something,
I feel I have adequate research on and can make assumptions on. However, regarding the aim about solutions
that that could be put in place I feel I could do more research in more detail. This has happened because
originally, I perceived that it would be difficult to find research on people’s viewpoints. I did find some difficulty
with this, so I put more of an emphasis on this as result. Therefore, this has led to slight shadowing of the
solutions to environmental degradation research. As a result, I have set deadlines to expand upon this research
as a result to meet my aim.
Regarding my objectives, I believe that that when I spoke about them in my candidate proposal, they were
concise and detailed enough that I could base my consequent research on them. This research I have put in
separate documents now. However, I am currently in the process of creating summaries illustrating the key
points, facts and opinions I feel will make the main basis of my essay.
Below, I have made weekly summaries of what I completed in a particular week up to the deadline of the
planning review
Week beginning 16/11/20
 Complete research on religion on population growth- I sourced two articles. One article by “The
Conversation” specifically about Christianity on population control and the potential disregard of
anthropocentrism. Completed on the 20/11/20. Another article was about a religious Muslim leader
name Ibn Khaldoun who lived in the 14th century and his insight in his religious work gave information
about the nexus between population pressure and environmental degradation and so forth.
Completed on the 20/11/20
 Watch documentary “Consumed: inside the belly of the beast” which is a documentary produced in
the UK about our ever-expanding consumerist culture and the psychology and evolution which has
determined the current global situation. This was not completed this week because I had two tests
but endeavour to watch it next week.

Week beginning 23/11/20

 From last week watch and take notes on “Consumed: inside the belly of the beast” set on the
24/11/20 complete by 6/10/12. I didn’t watch the documentary; in hindsight I could have but had
homework set and due the following day.
 Find books or resources from the school library. Set on the 22/11/20 and completed 23/11/20
 Complete research on Ester Boserup. Set on the 25/11/20. Completed by the 27/11/20. One study
published by the National Centre for Biotechnological Information “PubMed.gov”
 I edited the research I had completed in the last couple weeks such as eradicating typos and
correcting grammar mistakes. This enabled me to see what research I had gathered and decided to try
to access more academic studies.
 Completed research via books on overpopulation and consumption. Set on the 24/11/20 and
completed on the 27/11/20. One of the books was Planet Under Pressure Population by Paul Mason.
This book gave on overview about overpopulation and the way in which overconsuming resources has
affected the world on both a social, economic and environmental level. Moreover, the second book
“An overcrowded world? Our impact on the planet “By Rob Bowden, explored different viewpoints of
certain companies, authors or activists, explaining how they have come to certain conclusions and
where they align with the various consensuses in society.
