Project: ASCOT College of Law
Activity: Tile Floor Installation
Tile installation is installing hard-wearing ceramic, stone, porcelain, or glass tiles to cover floors,
walls, roofs, and tabletops. Roof tiles, floor tiles, pebble tiles, ceiling tiles, glass tiles, and wall
tiles are among the various tiles used in modern buildings. There are various varieties of flooring
based on its intended function, desired level of finishing, and cost. The concept behind using
different types of flooring materials is to decorate the interior and exterior.

Things to Consider Before Installing Tile:
• Putting tiles on the existing floor could be more severe under the surface - most likely
foundations problems. Laying down material without proper foundation inspection will
cause problems, like cracking and tile shifting. Having this checked out beforehand will
give time to level out the structure and save the hassle of re-doing the installation
afterward.
• Also, ensure that sub floor of PCC, RCC, or brickbats have been done with proper
leveling with a slope if required.
• All of the rooms' brick masonry and plasterwork should have been completed.
• Before installing the floor tiles, the wall tiles should be installed first.
• If authorized in the drawing or tender, waterproofing should be completed first.

, Safety Analysis during Tile Installation Work:
It is essential to do a safety analysis during the tile installation process to ensure the tilers' safety.
Let's talk about how to prevent it.
• Before starting work on the tiles, a method statement for handling, placing, and cleaning
the materials must be prepared.
• Tilers should be knowledgeable and experienced.
• Ensure that the tiler and tiling worker are given with all necessary safety equipment
(safety helmet, facemask, rubber hand gloves, safety glasses, and safety shoes).
• First-aid measures should be present on the worksite where tile installation is being done
• Always conduct a job safety analysis and trial tile installation work on tiny areas before
starting the primary operation. Additional safety precautions should be specified if
necessary.

Checklist for Tile Installation:
• All materials should be tested, and they must be tested according to IS specifications,
tender specifications, or per drawings.
• Ascertain that all tools, machinery, and equipment are in working order for tile
installation.
• Remove all loose and hardened mortar off the slab, then clean this by blowing air or
spraying water on it.
• The sand should be screened via an appropriate size sieve.
• Before using the tiles, soak them in water for 24 hours and ensure the application surface
moist during tile installation.
• Proportioning of cement mortar or adhesive should be as specified and must be used
within 30 minutes of adding water.
After the initial set, no mortar or adhesive should be used.
• When using ceramic or mosaic tiles, arrange all of the tiles throughout the room/area to
ensure that they are all the same color, pattern, and shade. Change them if they are
different. Changing afterward would be extremely tough.
• It is essential to begin work in a room or open area. If the room dimensions are irregular,
give cut tiles where furniture is scheduled to be placed over it, or that area will be
covered.
• The joint tile pattern should be completed according to the drawing or, if not specified in
the drawing, consult the in-charge architect or engineer.
• In tiling work, the slope should be checked at several locations as specified in the
drawing.
• Skirting should be flush with the wall plaster and have a groove, and it should be the
same shade and pattern as the wall plaster.
• Always provide a space between the skirting and the floor tile for movement.
