2. a) The teacher feels that he/she has power over the parents and is encouraging
them to do something out of power.
b) The teacher might be biased because the teacher only speaks English. So, while
the parents are trying to teach their child Ukrainian at home as well the teacher does
not understand that and thinks they need to speak more English. The teacher might
also not understand that English is an L2 language for the parents so it’s harder for
them to speak it to their child.
c) I would tell my cousin to maybe teach their child the English version of the
Ukrainian words they say a lot at home. I would also tell them not to completely just
speak English at home like the teacher is requesting because that is the teacher's
idea of having power over them.
3. Based on these two outcomes, I agree with and believe that baby signs might delay
child's development of spoken words. This is because the child might get comfortable
with using signs to speak but as they get older it will become harder to learn how to
communicate using words vocally properly.
4. a) The researchers will notice that in the Control Group of babies, there will be no
habituation (or no high amplitude sucking) because they have already seen that
same video and know it's the same one. But the Test Group babies will have a
change in the amplitude of their sucking because they will realize it is a different
video/language
b) If the babies cannot discriminate between the French and English videos, the
researchers will observe that the control group and the test group babies will have no
reaction to the second video they are shown as they will believe it is the same as the
first video they saw.
c) Yes. I think the results will be completely different for bilingual french and English
babies. I think this because these babies will be able to easily recognize the
difference between the English and french videos regardless of when they are shown
it.
