• By the end of this lesson, the student should be able to understand
and describe Florence Nightingale Environmental theory.
, What is a theory?
• An internally consistent group of relational statements( concepts,
definitions and propositions) that present a systematic view about
phenomenon and that is useful for description, explanation,
prediction and control. Think of a theory as a very well articulated
idea about something, e.g. Darwin’s Theory of Evolution
• A theory is the primary means of meeting the goals of the nursing
profession concerned with a clearly defined body of knowledge
