Significance and connection of the subtitle the story of wallstreet and him being a criminal.

Despite everything the man still feels empty as though something is missing.

Impact of the setting of a capitalist system on the character’s isolation and psychological construct.

Emerson made it a point that human beings are being sacrificed in the name of progress, hence jobs
extinctions.

Lofty brick wall is the unobstructed view; indicates sombreness and lacking in life stifling claustrophobic.

Despite being written in the 19th century it reflects now.

Raslan: Although it's written around 1850 I think it relates a lot to the idea of the alienation of
modern man that was written on much later, and I'm not sure if this is just me but it also parallel
or anticipates the writings of Kafka, and it very much resembles the Metamorphosis. I think a
connection can be drawn between Bartleby and Gregor Samsa.

He comes to this place in a lethargic state.

He has no clue why he’s become the way he is, only his physical appearance.

He chose his desk next to a window ...

What’s happening to the Bartleby is contagious not only to his colleague but all mankind.

First he did a huge amount of writing; he’s been famishing for something to copy. He was working
frantically, working with no pause like a robot.

His life is so empty to the extent that such a tedious job gives meaning to his life.

“I would prefer not to” : shows his utter nonchalance and depression.

The place is un-carpetted, no warmth no aesthetic.

All characters are described as one-dimensional characters rather than human beings.

“Something prompted me to touch him”, he received physical affection only after his death, when it was
too late. He received no humane interaction all his life.

He either deliberately starved himself to death or he was too disinterested in life.
