, Epidemiology:
Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the top 10 causes of death
worldwide. It is the second most common cause of death
from infectious diseases.
- In 2010, 8.8 million cases were reported with about 1.5
million deaths.
- In 2015, 10.4 million cases were reported and 1.8 million
died from the disease (including 0.4 million among people
with HIV – 35% of deaths from HIV infected patients).
- Ending the TB epidemic by 2030 is the health targets of the
newly adopted Sustainable Development Goals
- Six countries account for 60% of TB; India, Indonesia, China,
Nigeria, Pakistan and South Africa.
- The incidence of TB increased in some countries as former
Soviet Union and Baltic states.
