BACKGROUND :
According to WHO; there are 1100 million smokers worldwide,
that almost constitutes to about one-third of global population
aged 15 years & above Therefore; in order to reduce the mortality
& morbidity rate urgent steps are to be taken. The prevalence of
tobacco consumption can be reduced by following two methods:
1. Reducing its large scale production. 2. Educating the people
about the harmful effects & also benefits of quitting it along with
providing adequate facilities to those who want to quit.

The cultivation of tobacco
takes place across 125 countries all
over the world From tobacco
cultivation,
curing ,processing ,cigarette
manufacturing & distribution, to
use & to its final disposal , the
tobacco industry’s supply chain is
extensive .This picture depicts the
usage of resources and the material
flow required in a year for
production of 6 trillion cigarette
sticks leading to resource depletion
(land , water , metal & fossil fuel)
