P5:

Name: Jason and Mary

Age:

Jason- 19:

Nutrition can be affected by age because when a teenager reaches puberty, they often feel hungrier
and eat more, this is due to their bodies going through a significant growth burst during adolescence.
Extra food provides your child with additional energy and nutrients to help them grow and thrive.
Your child's eating habits may also begin to shift, this can have an impact on Jason due to him being
in his teens and he may not feel the need to eat due to most of his time being taken up by studying
therefore his eating pattern may have shifted and he may lose appetite for food.

Mary –54:

Age can have an impact on nutrition because middle aged people eat fewer high energy sweets and
fast foods, they tend to eat more low energy grains, vegetables, and fruit. As people get older their
daily food and beverage consumption decreases, therefore this can have a positive impact on Mary
because she is middle aged, and she may start consuming more healthier foods in her diet

Gender: Jason (male)6’0 80 kg Mary (female)5’4 105 kg

Your gender has an impact on your nutrition, although the recommended carbohydrate, protein, and
fat breakdowns are the same for men and women, males require a higher overall consumption of
each macronutrient because they require more calories. Women require less calories than men, but
their vitamin and mineral requirements are often higher Socio-economic group: Jason- high status
Mary- low status:

There are many ways your socio-economic group can affect your nutrition, for example if you are
from a deprived background then it can impact what you eat due to you not being able to eat
healthier foods which are usually more expensive therefore that’s why people from deprived
backgrounds are less healthy and their diet consumes more unhealthy foods such as takeaways and
frozen meals. Whereas if you are from an upper-class background, you are more likely to be healthier
due to you being able to afford more organic options which consume more benefits for your health,
therefore because Jason has a higher status, he can afford more organic foods and consumes a
healthier diet than Mary

Jason disability: epilepsy

Mary disability; arthritis, obesity

Jason illness: depression

Mary illness: type 2 diabetes

Nutritional disease Jason: hypertension (high blood pressure) this is caused due to Jason having a
fast metabolism therefore he eats food that contains a lot of sodium such as frozen breaded meats
and dinners that are frozen such as burritos and pizza.

Mary:

Type 2 diabetes: Mary has type 2 diabetes due to her being obese and physically inactive

, Jason's meal pattern is moderately eating healthy foods such as fruit and veg, but the majority of his
meals contain a lot of carbs and foods that contain sodium; this causes him to develop hypertension.

Mary’s meals consist of takeaways, and her meals contain heavy protein such as chicken, and beef.
She has heavy portions and this causes her to obese, because Mary lives alone and is old, she relies
on takeaways to feed her due to her not being able to cook meals for herself daily.

Mary is carnitarian therefore she does not eat fish or seafood, this can impact Mary’s nutrition due
to her lacking omega 3 and because she is elderly, she needs the energy and vitamins that come from
fish

Jason is lactose intolerant and tries to avoid foods that contain dairy.

Jason is currently in university he lives in an accommodation with his flat mates they are moderately
active and enjoy playing certain sports such as football on the weekends and they sometimes go for
runs in the mornings, but they tend to drink alcohol often, due to Jason being moderately active
when he has the time it causes his physicality to stay intact, but due to him having epilepsy drinking
alcohol sometimes triggers his seizures.

Mary lives alone in a council estate and is not active at all due to her being obese she finds it difficult
to even do day-to-day activities, therefore she is not active and needs her carer to help her move
around and get up, Mary enjoys knitting but due to her having arthritis it has impacted her hobby
and she now finds it difficult to knit due to her joints aching.

Jason is Turkish and, in their culture, they consume a lot of desserts. These desserts contain dairy
and due to him being lactose intolerant it impacts him.

Due to Mary living in a council estate it affects her daily because she feels deprived of certain things
such as not having a playground to have walks and stay active, because she also lives alone, she feels
lonely most of the time, Mary’s husband passed away 2 years ago, and this has had an impact on her
mental health.

Due to Jason currently studying sociology in university it takes up a lot of his time and he does not
really have time to eat therefore he sometimes skips meals, and this causes him to feel less energetic
when it is time to study and has less focus in his lectures. Jason has mental health issues due to him
having a distant relationship with his family.

There are numerous policies and laws in place to assist Jason and Mary, for example, the government
focuses on national surveillance, obesity education and awareness, zoning for food access, and
nutrition labelling. It has been statistically proven that people from deprived areas of the country are
more than twice as likely to be obese as their peers from wealthier areas of the country. The mental
health act 1983 and the mental capacity act of 2005, which includes loss of liberty safeguards, are
two legislation that support people who suffer from mental health.
