, Maximum marks will be given for correct answers. Where an answer is wrong, some marks may be
given for correct method, provided this is shown by written working. Working may be continued below
the box, if necessary. Solutions found from a graphic display calculator should be supported by suitable
working. E.g. if graphs are used to find a solution, you should sketch these as part of your answer.
1. The table below shows the time, in minutes, taken to complete a Statistics test by a group of 100
students.
Time, t (min) Frequency Cumulative Frequency
10 ≤ t < 20 21 21
20 ≤ t < 30 38 59
30 ≤ t < 40 31 𝑥
40 ≤ t < 45 10 100
a. Write down the value of x. [1]
b. Use the time interval midpoints to estimate the average time taken to complete the test, and
give justification, as to why are we estimating the mean. [3]
The time taken to complete the test is displayed on the cumulative frequency graph below.
c. Estimate the median time of test completion. [2]
d. Estimate the number of students that spend at least 30 minutes on the test. [2]
e. Calculate the interquartile range. [2]
