Africanisation is the process of defining or interpreting African identity and culture. Learning refers to viewing young children in your class as capable, active, powerful, visible individuals with their own capacities, valued and attended to. QUESTION 2 THE SCHOOL GOVERNING BODY 2.1 It is a statutory body of parents, educators and non-teaching staff who seek to work together to promote the well-being and effectiveness of the school community and thereby enhance learning and teaching. 2.2 Term refers to the statutory body of people who are elected to govern the school together with the school principal and embers who have been co-opted but not elected to the body. 2.3 They must decide on the language policy of the school. They must adopt a code of conduct for learners which sets out disciplinary procedures. They must decide on an admissions policy for the school. They must adopt a constitution setting of how the school governing body will operate. They must decide on what religious practices will be followed at the school. They must decide the times of the school day. They must administer the school’s property, buildings and grounds. They must maintain and improve the school’s property, buildings and grounds. They must make recommendations regarding the appointment of educators at the school. They must adopt a school mission statement setting out the values and beliefs of the school. 2.4 They need to develop policy in areas such as school times, language policy, rules about religious observation, dress code, finance policy and code of conduct for learners. QUESTION 3 POSITIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENT 3.1 Physical environment- Is there sufficient lighting and circulation in the room or building? Is there enough space for every learner to move around? 3.2 Affective environment- How am I creating an environment that will enable the learners to feel calm, energised and engaged? Have I set aside my own emotions and personal challenges in order for the learners to be able to approach me? 3.3 Cognitive environment- Did I prepare activities that will scaffold one another (simple to complex)? Is my resources and method of explanation effective for the goal of my lesson? 3.4 Behavioural environment – Am I creatinL.Kg an environment of reciprocal learning? (mutual learning) Are my instructions to the learners clear and do they know what is expected of them? 3.5 Supporting environment- Did I plan enough time for the learners to meaningfully engage in group and individual activities and can the learners monitor the time provided?
