understand splits into T3 and T4 when it binds with iodine, but my professor\'s notes on the
board it says that the follicular cells of the thyroid contain thyroglobulin and the colloid contains
T3 and T4... isn’t that backwards? Because I thought T3 and T4 are made and synthesized in the
colloid and THEN secreted out by the follicular cells... does that make sense? Can you please
explain this and help clarify it?
Solution
Follicular cells produce thyroglobulin. after being attached to iodine, thyroglobulin is stored in
colloid in the follicular cells. the iodine bound thyroglobulin is the source of T3 and T4. then it is
transported into the blood stream.
