Chamberlain University: Nurse Practitioner Track
NR500NP Foundational Concepts and Advanced Practice
Roles
, Week One Reflection on Learning
During week one of Foundational Concepts and Advanced Practice Roles some of the
most important concepts I found were that it is important to expand on knowledge whenever
possible to ensure you continue to advance your career in a positive way. Expanding on that
knowledge may include things in the classroom and out of the classroom. Healthcare is
continually evolving, and we need to be able to adapt and overcome. Adapting is crucial in the
healthcare field because regardless of what specialty you choose you will need to understand that
every day is different, and every patient is different. Learning to enhance your communication
and problem-solving skills will also help you become a better leader and mentor for those around
you. Advance practice nurses are continuing to be in high demand, and they often work in a
complex work environment.
These important concepts will help me in my future role as a master’s prepared nurse as I
have chosen the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner route and in the psychiatric
community, I feel adapting is extremely crucial. Not only is adapting crucial with psychiatric
patients but also, having the ability to meet the patient where they are and having compassion to
let them know they are not alone. Overall, I feel the role as a master’s prepared nurse is a very
important part of the overall multidisciplinary team and I look forward to continuing on this
journey to become a well-versed masters-prepared nurse.
