Ans The branch of biology which deals with the study of
inheritance is called genetics. Genetics has been derived from
word ‘’genes’’.



Q.2 what do you mean by inheritance.
Ans Inheritance means the transmission of characterics from
parents to offspring.



Q.3 what are traits?
Ans The characteristics which are transferred from parents to
offspring are called traits.

For example;
In man following are all inheritable traits e.g. height,
color of eye, skin, hair, intelligence

Ans parents pass characteristics to their young through gene
transmission. Equal numbers of chromosomes from each
parent are combining during fertilization. The chromosomes
carry the unit of inheritance called genes.



Q.5 What is Genotype? Give its type.
Ans The specific combination of genes in an individual is
known as genotype.

It consist of two types-
 Homozygous genotype.
 Heterozygous genotype.
