Time Series Forecasting Report
Part One: Short-term Forecasting
Simple Line Plot
Using the simple line plot from both time series of Apple and Honeywell, an analysis
of the plotted data indicated various seasons, irregularities and trends in the data. For
instance, the uniform spread of peaks and troughs for each trading day, culminating in a near
unform spread of peaks and troughs for each month, and finally deep and a dive from the year
2019 to the year 2020 is clear indication of the seasonality of the time series. For the
Honeywell stocks, there is a low seasonal decrease around period 86 to 96. The stocks in
Apple have a large season increase between periods 201 to 206.
Irregular patterns exist throughout the time series, with frequent fluctuations between
successive periods making it harder to determine if a concrete pattern can be visualized from
the data. These fluctuations are neither systematic nor predictable.
From the time series, the movement in the charts indicate an increasing trend of the stocks for
both Apple and Honeywell. There is an obvious upward trend in the data.
