INTRODUCTION A comprehensive definition of successful aging would combine survival (longevity), health (lack of disability), and life satisfaction (happiness) (p. 914). Gibson (1995) stated that successful aging is reaching one’s potential and arriving at a level of physical, social, and psychological well-being in old age that is pleasing to both self and others (p. 279). Many older adults have one or more health conditions that, when well controlled, have minimal impact influence on their wellbeing. Being free of sickness or infirmity is not a prerequisite for good aging. Even in the midst of illness and disabilities, older adults who are aging successfully have a zest for life, are involved in personal relationships, care about the welfare of others, maintain a positive and optimistic outlook on life, and believe that their later years are a time to leave a legacy for others that is based on affirmation. The elderly are being asked to adapt to new technology and the demands of modern society as the population ages. In a time where technology is almost at its peak, the elderly appear to be the recipients of the final dose. Coping with technology is difficult for those who have already attained senior status since they appear to be irrelevant in such a virtual society. On the other side, technology is more important to the old people than it is to the young (Jovarie, 2020). Whether a person communicates from their home computer, mobile or tablet access is straightforward cost effective, and changing the way we live (Lehmann, 2018). To accomplish healthy aging, it is about creating environments and opportunities that allow people to be and do what they value throughout their lives. Everyone may mature in a can healthy manner. The essay will expound in detail how social isolation and loneliness have a negative effect on successful ageing and the wellbeing of older people. The essay will then connect the argument with facts on loneliness and social isolation. It will further elucidate the negative attitude towards technology. The essay will provide a cogent coherent discussion about generational knowledge on online safety threats. Finally the essay will explain the role of technology to enhance competence in older adults. 4 league 2 THE LITERATURE REVIEW
