Neuro
CNS PNS
Brain & Spinal Cord Nerves:
Cranial : 12 pairs
Spinal: 31 pairs
Nucleus Automatic - Involuntary
Somatic - Control Smooth
Voluntary Visceral
Straited
MSK
# Name Function
I olfactory Sense of Smell
II optic Sense of Sight/ Vision
III occulomotor Motor enervation of upper
eyelid muscle, extraocular muscle and pupillary
muscle.
IV trochlear The trochlear nerve controls an extraocular muscle.
V trigeminal Sensory - sensation of the face, mucosa of nose &
mouth
Motor - muscles of mastication (chewing).
VI abducent The abducent nerve enervates a muscle, which
moves the eyeball.
VII facial Sensory: anterior of tongue
Motor: muscles of the face (facial expression).
VIII vestibulocochlear Sense of hearing and balance (body position sense).
IX glossopharyngeal muscles involved in swallowing and taste.
, X vagus The vagus nerve enervates the gut (gastrointestinal
tract), heart and larynx.
XI accessory Sternocleidomastoid muscles and the trapezius
muscles.
XII hypoglossal The muscles of the tongue.
Brain - in Cerebrum - Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that plays a role in memory,
learning, attention, arousal and involuntary muscle movement. Acetylcholine is
the neurotransmitter at neuromuscular junctions, at synapses in the ganglia of the
visceral motor system, and at a variety of sites within the central nervous system.
- Weakness and paralysis when the acetylcholine is blocked - myasthenia gravis
Cerebrum - Consciousness - memory , knowledge, personality - everything you know
being a person
Cerebellum - Balance
Midbrain - Auditory and visual re exes
Occipital lobe - Virtual perception
Pons - Breathing pattern
Hyperventilation
Hypoventilation
Apnea
