Discussion 2 Week 2

A brief is a document that outlines the goals, expectations, and necessary information for

a task or project. It is often used in project management and graphic design but is also important

in data visualization to ensure a clear understanding of the project's purpose and objectives. It

establishes the context and vision for the work (Kirk, 2019). Formulating your brief is the

process of determining the target audience, identifying the topic, and outlining the intended

outcome and objectives of the project. It involves considering the purpose and goals of the work

and what you hope to accomplish. The main objective of this phase is to understand the situation

in which the work will be performed and to define its objectives clearly. It includes determining

the project's audience, subject, purpose, location, and timing and how it will be executed.

The level of formality in this stage can vary depending on the project's needs. It can be

shared with others or kept informal. Its importance is establishing the project's context. A

successful data visualization project should begin with a specific question or point of interest. By

clearly understanding where the project originated from in terms of curiosity, the main guiding

principle for decision-making will be the desire to address this question or interest effectively

(Kirk, 2019). When creating a project, it is important to establish a clear vision. This includes

considering questions such as: "What is the goal of the project?", "Why is it important?" and

"What is the expected outcome?". An example is Company that analyzes the movie industry and

creates a dashboard for diverse users, including Hollywood executives and casting agents. The
