summarize what you have learned about these topics.
-The two major topics associated with child and adolescent psychology that I choose are
cognitive and social emotional development. With cognitive development the theorists
Freud, Brofenbrenner, Vygotsky, and Piaget all had different view points. But I will
identify a couple of the theorists. “Freud said that a child’s personality is developed
within the very first years of life and has 3 different parts known as id, ego, and
superego” (Harper, et al, 2020, Ch. 7, Section 7.1). Piaget was a theorist that came up
with the 4 different stages of development that started at infancy and continued through
adolescence. I personally think that all of the theories have to come together to work.
Play experiences is something that a child can learn through, but it is important to also
look at the milestones and development of a child to understand where they’re at in the
learning and development process. I know with my children, the doctors and I always
compared the milestones to their progression. Socioemotional development is important
because often time’s children rely on adults to feel that sense of security. What I found
interesting was the “strange situation procedure.” Learning how children have different
relationships with caregivers/parents and how the child acts when they leave or when
they return is important. “Some children can be consoled and are happy to see the parent,
some are stressed when the parent leaves but don’t show much interest when they return,
some actively avoid the parent at their return, and others show
disorientation/disorganization” (Harper, et al, 2020, Ch. 7, Section 7.1). From this a
person can see relationship habits.
Identify two majors topics associated with industrial/organizational psychology and
summarize what you have learned about these topics.
-When I think of major topics with industrial/organizational psychology I think of
leadership skills and work motivation. When you have good leadership skills, it can make
motivation for the employees easier. In a work place being a leader takes a lot of patience
because there is a lot of responsibility that comes with it. “I/O psychologists can support
organizations by working with leadership to create effective culturally intuitive
messaging and training opportunities that support business goals” (Harper, et al, 2020,
Ch. 8, Section 8.1). If a leader can get people motivated then not only can the employees
excel, but the company excels too.
Using the topics from Part 1, choose one and locate a scholarly article (dated
between 2016 and 2019) that shares recent findings in this domain.
-A lot of interest was taken into Piaget’s theory on cognitive development. He had four
stages known as sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal
operational. All children go from one stage to the next. If they can not move past the
stage, it is as if the child can not move forward. He studied on his kids so there was some
bias that arose. “Piaget believed that cognitive development is a continuous process and
all children, even in different environmental context and culture diversity around the
world, have the same sequence of cognitive development” (Babakr, et al, 2019). The
stages that he has proposed has since been evaluated and researchers have added and
disagreed with certain things. But it has been said that when Piaget’s theory is criticized
that he is just misunderstood in the wrong way. His findings play major roles in the
development of children then and currently. A lot of psychologists do use Piaget’s theory
as a guide when understanding development.
