• Define the following: follower, visionary, manager, and leader
o Follower – the person who contributes to a group's outcomes by implementing activities
and providing appropriate feedback
▪ Followership – those with whom a leader interacts; involves assertive use
of personal behaviors in contributing toward organizational outcomes while
still acquiescing certain tasks to the leader or other team members.
o Visionary – person w/an original idea about a desired future state and thinks about/plans
the future w/imagination or wisdom
o Manager – the person with accountability for a group of people
▪ Management – the activities needed to plan, organize, motivate, and control
the human and material resources needed to achieve outcomes consistent with
the organization's mission and purpose.
o Leader – the person who demonstrates and exercises influence and power over others
▪ Leadership – the use of personal traits to constructively and ethically influence
pts, families, and staff through a process in which clinical and organizational
outcomes are achieved through collective efforts
• Define the following: negligence, beneficence, fidelity, nonmaleficence, autonomy,
justice, accountability, veracity
o Negligence - Failure to exercise the degree of care that a person of ordinary
prudence, based on the reasonable person standard, would exercise under the same or
similar circumstances
o Beneficence – care that is in the best interest of the client

o Nonmaleficence – nurse’s obligation to avoid causing harm to the client
o Autonomy – ability of client to make personal decisions, even when those decisions may not be
in client’s own best interest
o Justice – fair treatment in matters related to physical and psychosocial care and use of resources
o Accountability – expectation of explaining actions and results
o Veracity – nurse’s duty to tell the truth
