Question 1
Explain the difference between jus ad bellum (the rules relating to the use of force) and jus in bello
(the law of armed conflict/ international humanitarian law).
The difference between this two kinds of law is actually mentioned in the question. Jus ad bellum
contains the rules about the use of force and jus in bello contains the law of armed conflict and
international humanitarian law.
So, there are rules of the legality to start an armed conflict / a war / an use of force, so named jus ad
bellum, “law before war”. And there are rules of how to act legal during an armed conflict / a war /
an use of force, jus in bello, “law in war”.


Jus in bello = international humanitarian law.
