There are six main psychological perspectives in psychology, all providing
theories and suggestions as to why people act, behave or learn in different ways
– and how. This booklet is here to explain to you what each of the perspectives
believe, and their reasons for this – whether it is scientific or just something that
people want to believe in. The booklet will also explain in detail the strengths
and weaknesses of each approach, and why it is a strength or weakness, as well
as how these approaches are applied in health and social care and how it
benefits health and social care. It is important to understand the different
psychological perspectives because it allows you to understand people on a
deeper, more intellectual level. These perspectives can be applied in all aspects
of everybody’s lives; including family life, work environments or with friends. If
you are able to understand the different psychological perspectives then you
can help them to change bad habits (for example, if your child is misbehaving
you can apply methods from some perspectives as to how to correct it). You
can also help people to learn easier through trying different methods of learning
applications. Reading this information booklet will expand your knowledge on
psychological aspects to help you throughout many different aspects of your
life, which will enable you to understand people more – from work colleagues to
family members, to friends! You will gain an insight into peoples’ minds; how
they think, how they learn, how they behave and why.
