, Question 1

The National Curriculum Statement, according to the Department of Basic Education (DBE) (2019),
expresses the information, skills, and values that South African schools should emphasize teaching. This
curriculum seeks to make sure that students gain knowledge and skills they can use in their daily lives. In
this way, the curriculum encourages knowledge in local contexts while also taking global imperatives into
consideration. According to the FET HL, the goal of language learning is to include abstract language
abilities necessary for academic learning across the curriculum as well as the aesthetic understanding
and enjoyment of texts, enabling students to confidently listen, talk, read, view, write, and present. DBE
(2019: 9–10) lists the following abilities and dispositions as the foundation for lifelong learning:

When using language in real-world situations, be mindful of the context, audience, and purpose.

 To develop into autonomous, analytical thinkers, people must be able to boldly express and
defend their own thoughts, feelings, and emotions.
 Imagination and language are used to explore and portray human experience. Students can
evaluate different worldviews and reflect on their own lives and experiences by interacting with
a variety of readings.
 For learning across the curriculum and in a variety of other contexts, use language to access and
manage knowledge. In the "information age," information literacy is a crucial ability that serves
as the foundation for lifelong learning.
 Make use of language as a tool for analytical and imaginative thought. This goal acknowledges
the social construction of knowledge as a result of the interaction between language and
thought.
 Share your logical thoughts about moral principles and issues. Learners interact with texts about
human rights and responsibilities, such as the rights of children, women, the disabled, and the
elderly, as well as issues related to race, culture, ideology, class, belief systems, gender, HIV and
AIDS, freedom of expression, censorship, and the environment, in order to develop their own
value systems.
 Engage in critical dialogue on a variety of texts. The perspectives, values, and power relations
that are ingrained in texts will be recognized by learners, and they will be able to dispute them.
 Recognize that different languages and language variations have varying degrees of importance.
In a multilingual society, learners will be able to claim their linguistic rights and contest the
dominance of any language or language variety.

An understanding the psychology of teenagers is an invaluable asset for teachers to be able to

develop effective teaching and behavior-management strategies .
1. Stress-sensitive

Because adolescent brains exhibit increased sensitivity to stress hormones, stressful experiences may
cause teens to react more strongly than adults or younger children . This is connected to an increase in
stress-related disorders including anxiety and depression and may have a significant effect on their
physical, psychological, and emotional health.
