cells
General knowledge and definitions:
Cells are the basic building blocks (structural and functional unit) of all living organisms.
Cells consist of nucleus (eukaryotic cells) or cellular DNA (prokaryotic cells), cell wall
(excluding animal cells), cell membrane, the cytosol inside (a gel-like substance) and
organelles (specialized subunits) which are suspended in the cytosol. The cell body (cell
component inside the cell membrane) is called a cytoplasm and it consists of cytosol,
organelles and other cytoplasmic inclusions. As cytoplasm is the term that excludes nucleus
/ cellular DNA there is also a term that includes it: protoplasm (living part of the cell).
In cell we can also find cytoskeleton - a microscopic network of protein filaments and
tubules in the cytoplasm of many living cells, giving them shape and coherence.
Cell can be divided into two groups:
● Eukaryotic - containing nucleus
● Prokaryotic - no nucleus
Cells of different organisms:
a) Bacterial Cell (prokaryotic)
I – cell membrane
II – cell wall
III – nucleoid
IV - cytoplasm
, b) Animal Cell (eukaryotic)
