Unit one: What are the different types of Housing?
Housing refers to structure or buildings developed to shelter people from the elements.
There are three main types of housing are:Permanent Housing,Temporary Housing and
Traditional Housing,
Traditional Housing:It is built by small communities and developed in an unplanned manner.
Temporary Housing:It is housing that is meant to last for a limited period of time only.
Permanent Housing:It is housing built to last or remain for a long period of time or almost
forever.

More than 6 Storeys Lesser than 6 Storeys
Requires the use of lifts May not require the use of lifts

→Proper housing plans are important for cities to develop sustainably.
→Unfortunately,Cities and Urban populations often grow faster than the pace of housing
development. This would result in housing shortage.

-Formal housing refers to housing that is provided by the government or private developers
with legal rights to occupy the land.
→Built by the government housing programmes or private developers-The
housing&Development Board(HDB) builds flats and towns and their supporting amenities such
