, Definitions: Anxiety
► a general feeling of dread or apprehensiveness accompanied by various
physiological reactions, e.g. increased heart rate, sweating, muscle tension,
rapid and shallow breathing.
► a fear that is out of proportion to the reality of danger/threat of a given
situation. Different conditions may be triggered by particular stimuli, but all
produce excessively fearful reactions in the individual, compelling the desire t
avoid and escape the situation.
► a negative mood state characterised by bodily symptoms of physical tension
and apprehension about the future (American Psychiatric Association, 2013)
► Fear is the emotional response to real or perceived imminent threat, whereas
