Policy Proposal on Counterterrorism
Introduction
Terrorism and its prevention have gained interest have gained a higher profile post 9/11
attacks. The focus has been directed towards addressing foreign-born terrorism that is imported
and spread in the US. Additionally, there has been an increase in domestic terror cases with
different groups presenting differing threat levels to the United States. Finding the best
intervention for the threat is imperative and laudable. However, there have been some
approaches that may be deemed to infringe on civil liberties of the US citizens deemed to be
associated with major terror threats. For instance, the United States government was more
interested in gathering information on its citizens instead of focusing on the actual terrorist
threats. This was witnessed in the rise and growth of la-Qaeda and associated groups. Gathering
information on the citizens was not justifiable when recognized organizations were aiming to
destroy the United States. Domestic born and grown terrorism are also gaining popularity with
main attacks being driven by extremists on either side of the political divide. The following
proposal provides a way of fighting both domestic and international grown terrorism by finding
the nexus between protecting the homeland and maintaining the civil liberties to the US citizens.
